Most of us arrived in Llandaff on Friday
evening |
The choir outside the West Door with Canon
Graham Holcombe, who helped to arrange the weekend for us...
Alongside the regular members of the choir were other singing friends
who had come to swell the numbers. |
The interior of the Cathedral with the unusual
Pulpitum designed by George Pace and Epstein's dramatic
Majestus |
In the Song School:
"And if you're not sure what the note is, phone a friend..." |
Then into the choir stalls to find out what's
it's like to sing in the Cathedral itself... |
... and to check one or two details. |
Cathedral-Organist-for-the-weekend, David
Winters celebrated his 16th birthday on the Saturday. |
The Maestro at work... |
...and the choir in action, singing at Sunday
morning's Cathedral Eucharist. |
Part of the organ is housed in the Pulpitum
(very dramatic, but it doesn't make for easy tuning...) An appeal
is being launched to
rebuild the organ. |
The Verger lights the candles before
Evensong... |
...and after Evensong, it was down the pub for
some refreshment. |
Don't ask... |
Then off to a very nice Italian restaurant for
a (very well-behaved) group meal... |
...and the chance to celebrate David's
birthday properly... |
And even if we did embarrass him by singing
'Happy Birthday to you' very loudly... |
...he still had enough puff to blown the
candles out. |
Discussing matters of great import... |
... such as whether to have a pudding or
not... |
Gathering our forces before the Sunday
services... |
...and enjoying a moment in the sunshine... |
There was also time over the weekend to look
at some of the lovely countryside in the Land of the Daffodil... |
...having first carefully consulted the
guidebook on what to see... |
Just in case, we'd also brought along our very
own Welsh-speaker, Mair... |
